Dear all at Finchley Cricket Club.
Wishing you very well as we pass through Autumn into Winter.
Some brief headlines here on the club – an important date for your diaries- and our annual request for nominations to our Executive Committee for 2022.
Along with many others, I am feeling very bullish and positive about our prospects as a club. We have good foundations to continue to develop our adult cricket, raising our participation and quality at all levels, and returning in due course to the Middlesex Premier Division in the condition needed to thrive at that level. Our junior cricket is beginning to thrive again -we will have multiple teams playing next season with many youngsters enjoying borough, county and London Schools cricket- and hats off again to our under 17 and under 19 teams for their victories in their 2021 Middlesex/ECB cup competitions. This year’s Finchley Smash competition bolstered our sense of community. We are looking after the ground and surrounding infrastructure – whole ground spiking and seeding is underway as I write. Our bar-pavilion team is currently attracting a number of events, evenings and day time, with excellent feedback and promising financial results. And we are in pretty good financial health – with a key 2022 priority to develop a really strong year on year fundraising campaign to support our continuing investment in our cricket and ground assets, and the machinery needed to keep them in good nick. A HUGE THANK YOU TO SO MANY OF YOU WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED SO MUCH ON AND OFF THE FIELD IN 2021 – IT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
A date for your diaries – our Annual General Meeting (‘AGM’) takes place on Sunday 12 December at 1830 at the club. Please do make every effort to attend. The formal business will be wrapped around by a social event and broad ranging conversation about the club. More detail to follow.
The AGM closes our process to form our Executive Committee for 2022. As ever, we are looking for a team ready to lead the club forward in a dynamic and positive way, both on and off the field. If you would like to put yourselves forward, here are the key points:
You will see our 2021 Executive Committee below my signature here. All roles – except trustee roles – are up for re-appointment each year; all members (except trustees) retire automatically each year and are eligible for re-election
If you would like to put yourselves forward for any of these roles, you will need to be both proposed and seconded by current members of the club
Those nominations will need to be sent to myself (Julian@thejouleseffect.com) and Jaimin Patel, our Hon.Treasurer (jaimin.patel96@outlook.com) by no later than Sunday 14 November. It is always helpful to receive some commentary on the basis for your nomination (why you are putting yourself forward, what you would like to achieve etc) if you would like
All nominations would be included in formal communication to members before the AGM, issued no later than the weekend of 20-21 November, including details of the AGM election process
I am in conversation with a number of club members about these roles and would be delighted to hear from anyone with interest. In particular, there is one role that I would particularly like to draw your attention to – that of Hon. Secretary. Vacant since April 2021, this is a pivotal club role, administering and supporting our governance processes, and helping ensure that our cricket administration is run smoothly. If you would like to explore this possibility, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me, it would be great to hear from you. Thank you!
Many thanks everyone and very much looking forward to all next steps.
Best wishes,
Julian

As decided at the 8 November 2020 EGM, the remit of the Cricket Committee is to manage the playing and organisation of all matters concerning men’s cricket, including selection of Captains for the season and weekly selection of teams. Drawing on and leading the active support of all playing members, ‘all matters’ means ‘all matters’, including recruitment, selection, ground acquisition, organisation of coaching and practice, organisation of league cup and friendly fixtures, and associated administrative detail like league and cup entries, player registration, clothing, umpiring etc. There will also be important liaison with the junior cricket leadership group.
